Setup Outlook 2011 to use your UM mail account
If you look for a decent mail client for your maastrichtuniversity.nl mail account, including the use of the Exchange agenda you can use Outlook 2011. Outlook 2011 is part of Microsoft Office for MacOS X 2011, so first get a copy of it.
There's a UM licence for Office 2011.
Follow the steps below to get Outlook 2011 to work.


System Requirements Office 2011
A Mac computer with an Intel processor
Mac OS X version 10.5.8 or later
1 GB of RAM or more
2.5 GB of available hard disk space
HFS+ hard disk format (also known as Mac OS Extended or HFS Plus)
1280 x 800 or higher resolution monitor
DVD drive or connection to a local area network (if installing over a network)
Safari 5 or later recommended
First, doubleclick Office Installer to install Microsoft Office 2011.
Office 2011 will be installed into your Applications folder on your Mac, in a folder called 'Microsoft Office 2011'.
You can leave other Office version(s) were they are, you don't have to remove them. But DO NOT start for example Word 2008 and Word 2011 at the same time, because this can damage your Office installations.
After the installation, the first thing you have to, is update Office 2011, just open for example Excel and select 'Check for updates' in the Help menu.

After the install is ready, Outlook is placed in your Dock, otherwise open the Microsoft Office 2011 folder in your Applications folder and start Outlook.
Before you select 'Accounts' in the 'Tools' menu, use webmail to login to your UM account.
In webmail, select 'Options', and then 'About'. This gives you detailed information about your UM account.
Now copy the 'Client Access server name', see the example below.

You can also use 'webmail.maastrichtuniversity.nl' as the server address. (with 'SSL' checked 'on')

In the Accounts window, click on the little plus sign (below left) and select 'Exchange' as the account type.
Enter your account information, and paste the earlier copied Client Access server name in the server field (check that there are no spaces before or after the server address).
Uncheck 'Configure automatically' it will not lead you to the correct server address.
Click 'Add Account'.

Your (new) account is created.
Click on the 'Advanced' button to change advanced setting.
The default 'Microsoft Exchange' settings are correct, no changes here.

Click on the 'Delegates' tab if you want to manege your delegates.

In Outlook 2011 you can use 'Out of Office' (Tools tab or Tools menu, make use of Public Folders).
The Rules set in Office 2011 are no server rules.
