MacOS 10.8 (Mountain Lion) released
Apple released MacOS X 10.8, called 'Mountain Lion', visit http://www.apple.com/macosx/ [jul 2012]
Mountain Lion can be downloaded via the App Store application (you need 10.7 to do that).

To connect your 10.8 Mac to one of the wireless networks, the for 10.7 created profiles, see below, can be used.

Trouble connecting to the WiFi network from your Mac computer?
Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 contains a software issue that may result in problems when connecting to one of UM's WiFi networks (eduroam, UMnet, UMguest) [jun 2012]
Please go to the following address to download and install a patch to resolve the problem:
Download and install MacOS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
After that perform the SMC reset following the instructions on the following address:
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Beware
- MacOS 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 is significant in size (1 GByte). Downloading will therefore take a fair amount of time. It is advisable to download the patch using a fixed network connection. These are available in the University Library
- Installation after download will take approximately 30-45 minutes
- It is advisable to close all open applications before starting the update

MacOS 10.7 (Lion) released
Apple released MacOS X 10.7, called 'Lion', visit http://www.apple.com/macosx/ [jul 2011]
Lion can be downloaded via the App Store application (you need 10.6 to be able to do that).
BUT, BEFORE YOU UPGRADE, FIRST, BE SURE THAT ALL 10.6 (SYSTEM) SOFTWARE UPDATES ARE INSTALLED
(Apple Menu -> Software Updates, repeat that until all 10.6 updates are installed
THEN, FIRST, MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR 10.6 SYSTEM, TO BE ABLE, WHEN NEEDED, TO GO BACK TO YOUR SNOW LEOPARD (10.6) SYSTEM.
So, be carefull when you plan upgrading to 10.7, look at RoaringApps Application Compatibility Wiki for Mac OS X Lion to
see if all your software will run on the new system.

MacOS 10.7 ('Lion') and Java
After you installed 10.7 (Lion) your MacOS system does not have Java installed.
You can install Java for 10.7 via http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1421.
Then check your Java installation via http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp, if needed, enable the Java-plugin for your browser. You should see the 'Your Java is working' message.
After Java works, you can install the (UM) AnyConnect VPN client, SPSS etc.

Problem with SPSS 18 after installing Java for MacOS X 10.6 Update 3 solved
After installing Java for MacOS X 10.6 Update 3, PASW 18 is unable to draw charts and is unable to import Excel files.
This problem is solved by SPSS in hotfix 18.0.3.4. SPSS 18 must first be updated to version 18.0.3 before this hotfix can be used.
